Original practice built around authoritative sources
This is an independent study project for people preparing for Sport Pilot and Private Pilot knowledge tests and practical-test conversations.
How questions are created
The practice questions are original—they are not represented as actual FAA test questions. Subjects and explanations are built from FAA regulations, Airman Certification Standards, advisory circulars, and FAA handbooks. Scenario questions use realistic names, places, calculations, and distracting details to test understanding instead of simple recall.
Every generated test is randomized from a bank of thousands of questions. Sport Pilot and Private Pilot material is tagged separately where the underlying privileges, limitations, or knowledge genuinely differ. IFR-only material is excluded from both written-test generators.
Quality checks and corrections
- Automated release checks look for duplicate prompts, missing answer choices, invalid keys, broken images, missing source links, and incorrect certificate scope.
- Repetitive template variants are retired when they do not add a meaningful calculation, scenario, or concept.
- Detailed reports link to official references and, where available, the closest stable section in the local HTML PHAK.
- Test takers can use Flag this question without interrupting a test. Report counts and abandonment data make likely trouble spots easier to review.
- Each public update receives a release number and a concise entry in the release notes.
No automated check replaces official guidance. If this site conflicts with a current regulation, FAA publication, aircraft flight manual, or POH, the authoritative source controls.
How to use the practice well
Take a fresh randomized exam, choose the best answer to each question, and then study the reasoning behind anything you missed. The goal is durable understanding—not memorizing a fixed bank or predicting a specific exam form.
